Challenge
Supply of security fencing and gates to accommodate a range of site levels including non-standard raked and radius panels and bespoke gates.
A 1960s multi-storey car park located in the centre of Bedford which had faced demolition, underwent a major refurbishment £2.7m refurbishment as part of the Bedford £8.8m "Gateway" regeneration project (carried out by Makers Construction) to create a key element of a new gateway to the town centre. The car park’s exterior and interior were extensively remodelled and upgraded to produce a state of the art parking facility which also boasts an arcade of shops on its ground floor and the installation of solar panels to generate power for the local authority.
Solution
The design, manufacture and installation of a smart and super strong new steel fence for six levels of the car park, to prevent access when the car park is closed in addition as well as providing an effective barrier to protect the newly installed solar panels. Matching gates were also fitted to all levels of the car park and special bespoke versions created to block off pedestrian stairways. Specially crafted bespoke steel raked and radius panels were bolted to the floors to support the vehicle access ramps which required a smooth handrail finish. Bespoke fencing was added at the entrance of the car park to add additional safety
The overall project saw The Allhallows car park in Bedford winning the ‘Best Car Park Refurbishment Award’ in the 2015 British Parking Awards.
