Jacksons Fencing has released a special report on school perimeter security, the first industry-wide assessment of security in educational sites based on extensive original research in recent years.
To gain an informed understanding of best practice for school security for stakeholders and specifiers, we conducted a far-reaching survey, obtaining responses from over 1,000 stakeholders within schools, including parents, teachers and architects. Our findings have now been released in a free-to-download report.
‘Protecting the Future’ highlights alarming failings in school security systems across the UK and uncovers a range of serious security challenges facing schools. It also offers solutions to the falling security standards in UK schools, widely caused by a lack of resources and information; one in three school leaders admitted they wouldn’t know where to look for help with installing security.
Additionally, the report investigates how schools across the UK are facing increasing pressure to keep students safe with shrinking budgets, and the difficulties in creating a secure learning environment while avoiding a fortress-like appearance. It gives guidance on Security Ratings, their implications for specifiers of school fencing and why they’re an essential consideration for any school site.
The report also contains some surprising findings, with many survey respondents unhappy with their school’s security measures and a large number of headteachers admitting lack of knowledge on school security; a fifth of parents reported being aware of students under the age of 6 leaving school grounds without permission during lesson time.
